Is there ever Guild Wars updates, in which Items such as New Swords or a New set of armour are added to the game. If yes, How often do they occur?

The update that added Grenth's footprint and sorrow's furnace added lots of new weapons (green). That is the only one I am aware of.

there is a new chapter comin' out, expected Q1 2006, which will add new areas, weapons, professions, ...

The last Wintersday update added the IDS ( Icy Dragon Sword ) which can be found from Ice Imps in Mineral Springs. I believe this sword will quit dropping however when the Winter even is over a couple days.
